Twice in the last few months, Gleichen RCMP patrols have been in the right place at the right time and were able to interrupt crimes in progress.

At 1 p.m. on February 22nd, 2024, Gleichen RCMP was on patrol and witnessed an armed robbery in progress.

They saw a male exit the Gleichen Liquor Store on Main Street with a bottle of vodka in his hand and an employee of the liquor store following him.

The male with the vodka then pulled a knife on the employee and then continued walking northbound into residential areas.

Upon arresting the male, they found methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other weapons in his possession.

He was identified as Lloydminster resident Justin Brett Decoux (32) and was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of a controlled substance x2
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose x3
  • Possession of ammunition while prohibited
  • Possession of an explosive substance while prohibited
  • Possession of a weapon while prohibited

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Decoux was remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on April 9th, 2024.

Then, at 1:30 p.m. on March 26th, 2024, Gleichen RCMP was on patrol and witnessed a male yelling at people and waving a machete around outside Gleichen Family Foods on Main Street.

Siksika resident Teddy Lyndon Yellowfly (34) was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failing to comply with conditions

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Yellowfly was remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Siksika on April 11th, 2024.
