Former Okotoks Oiler Lorenz signs NHL deal following national title win
Former Okotoks Oilers forward Rieger Lorenz has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild after capping his senior season with a national championship at the University of Denver Since signing with the Minnesota, Lorenz has already played in three games with the team's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, making his debut on Wednesday, April 15. Prior to playing in Denver and now Iowa, Lorenz spent part of his development as an Oiler. He first debuted during the 2018-2019 season before joining the team full time in 2020-2021. He went on to dominate as an Oiler in 2021-2022, capturing 85 points on the season, the third highest in franchise history. He went on to play for the University of Denver in the 2022-2023 season where he has remained until now. Coming in at six-foot-three and 211 pounds, the 22-year-old winger has the chance to become a full-time NHL player alongside several former Oilers, including Jacob Bernard-Docker, Dylan Holloway and Corban Knight.
