The Jacob Libbus rink out of Turner Valley had a tough road to hoe over the weekend at the U-18 Men's District Curling Playdowns in Airdrie.

Coming in as a favourite, Libbus didn't disappoint heading straight to the "A" final against Calgary's Ryan Parent, but a 4-3 loss in that game sent him to the "B" Event and eventually the "C" Event where he had to beat Medicine Hat's Connor Zeidell 5-1 Sunday to earn one of the final spots at Southern's coming up in Cochrane in a couple of weeks.

The Alberta Ladies Curling Champion was decided Sunday as well at the North Hill Club as Calgary's Chelsea Carey pulled off the 8-5 upset over defending champion Val Sweeting out of Edmonton to end her dream of a third straight trip to the Tournament of Hearts.

This year's Scotties go February 20 to the 28 in Grande Prairie.
