The call's gone out for local girls who'd like to play football this spring.

Last year they had five girls play on the Calgary team but this year those players are returning, and they've recruited others, so they'll have their own team along with teams from Calgary and Airdrie.

Lance Kelly is the team's coach and says it's a great sport to be involved in.

"It's far bigger than the game, we wind up teaching some really great life lessons and turn out some really fantastic people through the football programs and it just didn't seem right to me that we didn't include the ladies in that experience," he says.

The six-a-side ladies' football league runs from April to the end of June.

"The Greater Okotoks Football Association, or GOFA as it's called, at gofa.ca, we have a registration page, they can register there and my contact information is on the website as well under the pee wee and the girl's program, they can connect with me and I'll be happy answer any questions they might have," Kelly says.

He says they'll accept girls 11 to 17 years of age although the youngest girls won't play against the 17-year-olds.
