The High River Brewing Co. Flyers are getting really close to securing a playoff spot in the HJHL South Division.

They are battling it out with the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, and they headed into enemy territory on Saturday night and came away with a huge 6-2 win over the Kings.

Flyer rookie sensation Connor Smith scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the season and added two assists in the win as did teammates Joel Burrows and McCallum Bakken. The penalty-filled third period sent many players on both sides to the box.  Flyer Cody Steinhert was suspended, returning to play on Feb. 10 while Markus Vassell has been suspended until Feb. 9.

The Flyers' other scheduled game on Sunday afternoon in Medicine Hat was postponed due to the weather.  No word yet on when it will be rescheduled.

And it was another two games for the Carstar Okotoks Bisons and another two wins.

They dispatched the visiting Coaldale Copperheads 4-1 on Friday night at the Murray arena and then had a tough game against the Gens on Saturday.

Cochrane only lost by one goal as the Herd took the game 2-1.

There are only two more weekends left of regular season play before playoffs begin.
