If you need to fill up your tank this week, it may be wise to do it sooner rather than later.

As of today, March 28, Gas prices in Okotoks are about $0.93 cents a litre, but prices expected to jump approximately $0.07 cents a litre by the end of the week.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com Dan McTeague says an increase on global stocks for gasoline are to blame for the hike.

"Any movement upwards is going to force them to push prices up, likely beginning in Calgary area around mid week by Wednesday or Thursday. But I suspect the $0.93 cents a litre average you're seeing, you may want to take advantage of it now because its likely to push up to $0.99 cents a litre, maybe even $1.01 by mid week to weeks end unless something dramatic should change on the world markets for gasoline."

If the increase because of what's happening on global markets isn't enough to push prices up, by mid April a dollar a litre will be the new normal.

"On April 15 right across Canada the phasing in of summer gasoline is mandated, which means that you're going to have to start to pay about another 3 cents a litre no matter what because that's what it costs refiners to blend and build into their price structure the more expensive to make gasoline. You make want to look at the early $0.90 cents a litre in the rear view window because its likely will move up and above the $1.00 a litre mark."
