The Foothills School Division had fewer students than it planned for this year because of COVID.

Assistant Superintendent Drew Chipman says they're asking Alberta Education not to hold them financially at fault for something they, and other boards had no control over.

"We've heard lots of other boards with similar concerns so when we met with our MLAs that was one of the issues that we talked to them about and they kindly agreed to take our concerns forward," he says.

Chipman says it could end up being a big hit if they aren't helped out.

"Over two years around $1.7 million believe it or not, it's a pretty significant hit when you're looking at 209 students that was the reduction we had from our projected enrolment."

He says they hope the caucus, treasury board and the education minister will take into account their concerns.
