Alberta Dance Academy students in classThe Alberta Dance Academy isn't all dance and recitals, they're also showing their students how important it is to give back to their community.

The Okotoks dance studio annually organizes a Christmas fundraiser for struggling members of their dance family, but this year wants to reach out even wider, and with a bigger impact.

A.D.A is going to target the Okotoks Food Bank with determination to fill one food basket for every 1 of their 25 years they've been part of the Okotoks community.

Studio Manager Tasha Shukys says she hopes to crush her goal by getting every kid to participate.

"It's our 25th anniversary so our goal is 25 baskets, one for each year that we've been in the community." Shukys says "We know that we can get 25, but my Christmas wish is that we crush it and can do more then that; Overall we're just really excited, and it's nice to do something the kids can participate in."

Studio Manager Tasha Shukys explains why they plan on going bigger this year.

"So every year A.D.A picks an organization to support over the holidays.  Often it's a family within our dance family that needs an extra boost at Christmas." Shukys says "This year though, with everything going on with the economy, we wanted to touch as many homes as we could."

Parents will understand how hard it can be to get your child to commit to something like this, so Shukys says the A.D.A has started a little in-house competition to get the ball rolling.

"We started a little friendly competition this morning between Miss Erica, Owner of ADA, and my myself to see which of us can bring in the largest volume of donations so I think once the kids come in and see Team Erica or Team Tasha, they're going to be excited to participate in that, It's just a little friendly competition all at the same time."

The public is welcome to contribute, if anyone wants to drop off a donation for Team Erica  or Team Tasha all they have to do is stop by the Alberta Dance Academy Studios along 4 Crystalridge Dr. in Okotoks.
