Through the 2017 Municipal Election season The Eagle 100.9 and Okotoks Online will be bringing you profiles of candidates to help you make an informed decision.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

"I was born and raised on a farm just outside of town, I've grown up here. I know just about everybody on council, Ray Watrin was my football coach, Bill Robertson was my Grade 5 teacher, I went to school with Tanya."

What is the main part of your platform?

"I'm running on fiscal reasonability, I believe the town is completely out of line with fiscal responsibility. With my construction and engineering background, I'm a master electrician, I've had my own contracting company before, and I just finished my last exam for my safety codes officer. I have a unique set of skills that nobody running for office has. I've coached sports in town for years, and when I played Peewee hockey we were a town of 7,000 people and we only had two rinks, now we're at 30,000 people, and the proportion of sporting activities to what we have, I don't think has followed suit for what we pay for taxes."

Why do you believe you'd make a good councillor?:

"The thing that makes me stand out from every candidate is my credentials, I have a construction and engineering background, and nobody has a construction and engineering background of any of the candidates running. So one of the issues I have with council, and that made me want to run for council is: I was superintendent for the electrical contractor when we built the recycling centre, and how I saw the town blow money when I was working there really bothered me, so I figured I have to do something about this."

The Municipal Election goes Monday, Oct. 16.

Every Okotoks candidate running for the 2017 municipal election will get to opportunity to explain who they are, their platform and why they are running. The candidate profiles are posted at random. If you are a candidate and have not been contacted, please email news@okotoksonline.com
