The Calgary Flames 11 year streak of losing their season openers remained intact Thursday, January 14, with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Jets in Winnipeg.

The Flames haven't won a season opener since 2009, going 0-9-and-2 since.

Goals from Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm got the flames out to a 3-1 after the first 20 minutes, but they couldn't hang on as the Jets battled back for the win.

Flames Coach, Geoff Ward, says they got off to a good start, but the Jets got better as the game wore on.

"We did a lot of little things really well in a small space. You know in the second and third period that changed. Now, saying that, we did enough to hang on and get a point and they were probably the better team in the second and third (periods)."

Flames defenceman, Rasmus Anderson says when you're playing a good team like the Jets you can't let your foot off the gas or they'll turn it around on you.

"We just took too many penalties, we didn't play as a unit. We went to a stretch game I guess because we were, I don't know if we were panicked or if we just didn't communicate enough down there and you can't do that against a good team or they're going to punish you, and that's what they did."

The Flames return to the Dome for their home opener Saturday, January 16, against the Vancouver Canucks.
