A lot of people noticed the horse trailers and athletes at the High River Ag Grounds on the weekend, and not necessarily in a good way.

The President of the Ag Society Tanya Froh says it was a high school rodeo event that had been sanctioned by Alberta Health Services.

"They've been rodeoing for a month or better now and the kids are doing a really good job of doing the social distancing, they are following all the protocols and they have a couple more dates scheduled I believe," she says. "Just in terms of events that are going on at the Ag Society, we've had quite a few comments on both on Facebook, phone calls, e-mails, that sort of thing and I want everybody to know anything that is occurring at the rodeo grounds, at the High River Ag Society, has been approved by Alberta Health Services."

She says the society is in no position to pay any kind of fine for an unauthorized event or for one that doesn't follow the rules.

"We couldn't possibly afford the fines so no event goes forward until we see the exemption (from AHs) and if it's an Ag Society event we will seek that exemption ourselves and if it's a private event, like a roping or rodeo or whatever else that's happening, those groups need to seek that exemption and put together the protocols themselves and they need to follow that to the letter."

She says they're doing their best to follow the rules and still let people have a little fun this summer.
