Residents of the Suntree neighbourhood gathered for the Eighth Annual Suntree Music Festival this past weekend.

Mark Rowed, President of the Suntree Resident's Association, says the festival began as a strategy to bring the community together.

"This was our eighth season this summer, and it started out as an idea. We wanted to try to do something that was social in our neighbourhood, and give neighbours a chance to meet one another and get to know each other to make a closer knit neighbourhood," he said.

Rowed says the event is always a success, but this year saw they saw record breaking numbers in attendance for both the Friday and Saturday events.

He says admission into the music festival is free, provided patrons bring a food bank donation.

"We just like to give back to the community with what we're doing, and we think that the food bank is a great cause, so we're happy to do that," said Rowed.

Residents gathered in Suntree Park on Friday evening for a campout and movie in the park, followed by live music, food and coffee trucks and open patios on Saturday.
