The new market and park Granary Road opened it's doors yesterday evening to offer a sneak peak at what to expect from the 36 acre establishment.

The new park features a market filled with local goods, and an active learning park along 3 kilometres of trails.

Keith Lockwood, Creative force behind Granary Road says they wanted to give greater Calgary Area influencers a chance to check out the park before it opened to the public.

"We're introducing Granary road to some of the more influential VIPs in the Calgary area, everybody from members of the City Council, the M.D., the director of the zoo, director of Glenbow, and of course radio stations and publications are here."

About 160 people got the opportunity to check out the market, as well as tour the active learning park.

"It's a pretty intimate public market, so we spent 18 months vetting vendors from all over the greater Calgary area, and looking for best practices in Granville Island and Pike Place in Seattle. We really did our homework with everybody so we only have about 35 vendors, but each one of them represents the best of class in whatever product they offer."

The active learning park features 11 different exhibits focused on insects, animals, and agriculture all native to Alberta.

While opening for the park was delayed for a week, Lockwood says it will guaranteed be open to the public for July 7.

"We're closing in on it pretty quickly, we're really excited. We have a couple of nails to hammer in still, and a little bit of polish, but we're going to be ready to go welcoming everybody on July 7."

Granary Road is located of 112 St. in the M.D. of Foothills.
