A historic move took place 15 years ago this week.

On July 14, 2000 the Welch house, now the home of the Okotoks Museum and Archives, made its way down the street from the original location on Elizabeth Street and Northridge Drive to where it sits now on North Railway Street.

If those walls could talk, the stories they would tell. I was fortunate enough to take in a tour of the house and was allowed to investigate some otherwise off limits areas of the house. I heard some stories and found out some interesting history about this 110 year-old house. A visitor from Ireland joined us on our tour and we both recognized and told our own stories about the many objects displayed here that we had seen at our grandparents homes.

The very knowledgeable staff have set up some wonderful displays of history in the house and will display objects of interest for you to guess what they are and what they would be used for.

I highly recommend a visit to the Okotoks Museum and Archives. You will walk away with more than a few "wow I didn't know that" moments. I know I will be back to find out more and to find out what the latest mysterious object is.

Thank you JB Sine for the tour and thanks to Kathy Coutts for the amazing displays.
