With no Santa Claus Parade in High River this year, the folks who put it on are looking to put on a "virtual parade."

Parade Chair, Ted Dawson, says it's similar to the one the Rotary Club did back in May for the Little Britches, where it would be online and consist of photos and video of past parades.

"If you've got any photos or short video clips or anything like that. The you can send it to hrsantaclausparade@gmail.com, and then if we can everything submitted before (Friday) November 27th, that'll give Melanie time enough to get everything put together."

Dawson, says they have other events planned too.

"We're doing Santa in the Park on the 4th and 5th of December and again on the 11th and 12th. And that'll go from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Our Christmas website is up and running and it's highriverchristmas.ca."

It's because of COVID the parade is being cancelled, however Dawson says no problem, they'll bring the parade to you.

"We're taking the Santa float and Fire and RCMP will be joining us and then Jeff Langford and Wes Shaw are going to be bringing "Mater" and "Lightning McQueen" as part of it. It'll be sort of a mini parade and we'll be taking it through various parts of town."

Dawson says the mini parade's will go Thursday, December 17, Friday, December 18 and Saturday, December 19.

Thursday will be the Northwest, Friday the Southeast and Saturday will be the Southwest and the central part of High River between Centre Street and 5th Street. S.E.

Dawson says they'll also be looking for residents to put their best outdoor decorating foot forward as part of the town's "Light Up High River" contest.

They're also looking to set up the outdoor rink again in George Lane Park and of course the park will be decorated again this year thanks to the town's service clubs and volunteers.

And Santa himself will be at the Museum of the Highwood over a few days leading up to Christmas for kids to get photos and give Santa their wish lists.

Saturday, December 5, 12, 19 : 11:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.

Sunday, December 6, 13, 20 : 11:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.
