Alberta's Agriculture and Forestry Minister is congratulating Ag Societies who've taken innovative approaches to operating during the pandemic.

Devin Dreeshen says as central community gathering hubs and hosts of major events, Agricultural Societies continue to feel the cost of COVID-19 restrictions.

But he says during the pandemic many Ag Societies found new ways to serve their communities, while following public health guidelines.

The three inaugural recipients of the Alberta Agricultural Society Innovation award include: the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society, the Bezanson Ag Society and the Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural & Exhibition Society.

"I commend all of the volunteers that helped agricultural societies find new and innovative ways to deliver programs and for your work in strengthening your communities," Dreeshen says.

Dreeshen says many societies stepped up with creative and innovative ways to support and connect their communities through online fundraiser's, creating virtual programs and fairs, offering contactless catering, meal pickup and delivery and organizing outdoor drive-in concerts, events and movies.
