The Okotoks RCMP showed off some promising statistics last week.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa presented the latest quarterly report to council, spanning Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021.

It shows total criminal offences down 7 per cent year-over-year in 2021 compared to 2020, with traffic offences taking a slight dip as well.

Motor vehicle collisions were up 17 per cent from the year prior, with 485 incidents compared to 416 in 2020.

According to RMCP, that's because of increased vehicle traffic, likely due to the pandemic.

The RCMP's greater Q3 statistics show some interesting changes compared to the same quarter last year, including a 26 per cent increase in fraud, an 80 per cent increase in mischief cases, and a 53 per cent decrease in disturbances of the peace.

Persons reported missing also increased, with 20 incidents in Q3 compared to nine in 2020.

Overall, the report from RCMP cites positive decreases in criminal code offences and "Other Criminal Acts."

The report also highlights the local RCMP's efforts with their three community priorities: Enhancing Visibility, Enhancing Public Confidence and Engagement, and Crime Reduction.

Those highlights include four traffic initiatives, some of which involved municipal enforcement, where 110 traffic tickets/warnings were issued. Officers also visited businesses to field concerns from business owners.

As far as crime reduction initiatives, RCMP conducted 17 habitual offender management checks, conducted four warrant roundups, and completed two crime prevention initiatives for local retailers revolving around safety in case of break-ins and robberies.
