The first baby to be born at the High River Hospital in 2024 has arrived.

Shannon and Geoff Wheeliker of Calgary welcomed Myles George Wheeliker into the world at 7:52 on Wednesday evening.

Myles weighed in at nine pounds, four ounces and joins a very excited seven-year-old sister Caroline.

Shannon says it all went very well.

"Everyone at the clinic, everyone here, they're all amazing, this is one of the best programs, I'm surprised that it's one of the only ones of its kind that exist in Alberta because the cooperation is just amazing."

"I find it was incredibly supportive and just an amazing experience," says Shannon.

Dad Geoff says Myles is the name of Shannon's great-great grandfather and they have a very close family friend who's very important to them named Myles.

His middle name comes from his father and grandfather, both named George.

Kary Langner of the High River Hospital Auxiliary presented Shannon, Geoff and Myles handmade gifts from the gift shop, including a quilt made by Bev Zielke, an afghan, hats, and boots as well as a piggy bank filled with cash donations from the auxiliary members.
