A fire was sparked at Meadow Ridge School yesterday afternoon (Jan. 11).

According to Foothills School Division communications manager Sara Fox, a small fire was sparked in a modular classroom that's currently being installed.

It was caused by a spark from a welder, which triggered the smoke alarm.

No one was harmed and the fire was immediately extinguished.

Students remained indoors for the rest of the day as it was deemed there was no risk.
