Updated photos from opening, night last night, April 21st.

The Innovation Awakens is the title of the Dewdney Players Group Theatre 2016 One Act Plays on stage at the RPAC only April 21 to 23. Come out and enjoy all four of these plays and cheer them all on as they prepare to compete against other towns including High River, Strathmore, Cochrane and Canmore to name a few at The Foothills Regional One Act Festival in Canmore April 29 and 30 and possibly onto the Provincial One Act Festival in May competing with 9 other regions across Alberta in Ft. McMurray.

The four plays on stage for each performance are as follows:

  1. Remember over the last few years being blown away by the award winning, heart wrenching performances of Fiorentina (Florence) Maione and Steve Buoninsegni? Remember this team going on to win at the Regional and Provincial One Act Play Festivals five times, including Most Outstanding Actor, Actress, Director and Overall plays? Well watch for them again this year doing another powerful piece by Tennessee Williams “Talk to Me Like the Rain And Let Me Listen”

  2. Remember “Sure Thing” last year? Coming in second with Honourable Mentions for Most Outstanding Play, Actor, both Actresses and Director? Remember “Act III” written by local playwright Kelvin D. Hatch, who won Most Outstanding Original Script? Well now imagine these talents teaming up. Haley Gray and Keigan Fisher are rehearsing under the guidance of the same award winning playwright and his latest “Trail Mix and Chips”

  3. You will recognize the lovely duo Melanie Tokarchuk and Hollie Darel from previous Dewdney productions including, The Odd Couple Female Version. They are ready to grace the stage in “Anything for You” Directed by CAT Award Nominated Brad Snowden, who you will soon see in an acting role as Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps opening May 13th.

  4. Batbrains” rounds out the four plays. I am excited to see this one presented by newcomers to Dewdney, Kelly Madeiros and Shanna Hedley. A warm welcome goes out to you both.

Getting involved in the One Act plays is a great way to be introduced or reintroduced to the stage. People that are new to theatre or have just been away for a while find this stage to be a great place to experiment.

The One Act Festivals are adjudicated and as such is a great venue to learn and grow in the theatre. The hard work of the actors and directors would not be complete without the rest of the crew. The crews that help these teams are invaluable, just imagine a show with no sound or lighting effects, or not having the props, wardrobe and set pieces in place necessary to help tell the story.

I am excited to be part of The Innovation Awakens and The Foothills One Act Festival in Canmore. I am looking forward to seeing all of the great plays that will be put forward from all the talented teams in the Foothills.
