December 2023 saw the busiest Shop of Wonders for MyCityCare Okotoks to date.

Each year, the Shop of Wonders provides local families in need with a free holiday shopping day.

Director Lorna Jewer says the latest iteration was amazing.

"This year we increased our numbers significantly from previous years... The shop kept us hopping, it was so busy."

All in all, the 2023 campaign supported 2,227 people across the Foothills, including 1,206 children.

The increase is due to multiple variables, says Jewer.

"There were a few factors, I believe. More people knowing about us and being in the community, helping people, that would have been one factor for sure. Another factor is a greater level of need in our community."

Luckily, there was plenty of support for MyCityCare to comfortably meet that need.

"We saw an incredible support level coming from our community. Companies as well as individuals wanting to donate or volunteer, it was just amazing."

It was also made possible thanks to around 170 volunteers who logged over 1,800 hours during the Christmas season.

MyCityCare Okotoks is now preparing for another annual event, their Night to Shine.
