As expected, Alberta roads saw a significant increase in drivers over the Canada Day long weekend.

Due to the nature of the holiday, Alberta RCMP carried out several operations focusing on impaired driving over the weekend, including checkstops.

This was the first Canada Day long weekend in which mandatory alcohol screenings were enforced, having been put into effect in late 2018.

The month of July is also impaired driving awareness month in Alberta.

A reported 3 deaths and 28 injuries occurred as a result of motor vehicle collisions from June 28th-July 1st.
