Contenders for the Alberta NDP leadership race are making the rounds, including planned appearances in the Highwood riding.

So far, six people have put their names forward to replace Rachel Notley as the party's leader.

Four of them are current NDP MLAs: Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse (Edmonton-Rutherford), Kathleen Ganley (Calgary-Mountain View),  Sarah Hoffman (Edmonton-Glenora), and  Rakhi Pancholi (Edmonton-Whitemud).

The other two, who are also the latest to announce their candidacy, are established figures in Alberta politics.

They are longtime Alberta Federation of Labour President Gil McGowan and former Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

A post on the Highwood NDP Facebook page indicates that all six are planning appearances in the riding.

Two will be visiting the Foothills area in the next week, with Pancholi visiting Diamond Valley on March 14 and Calahoo Stonehouse making an appearance in Okotoks on March 21.

Sarah Hoffman will be in Diamond Valley at The Market on Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. 

Kathleen Ganley se also announced an event set for April 5 rin a yet-to-be-announced location.

The post also lists McGowan and Nenshi as having upcoming announcements for the area, and several candidates are also expected to appear the the 2024 Okotoks Trade & Lifestyle Show.

Candidates have to register in the race by March 15, and the leadership election is set for June 22.
