Tommy Gun's not only takes care of men's appearances but this weekend they also cared for their health.

The local barbershop hosted the Man Van Saturday allowing men aged 40 years and older to get fresh cuts and to get their blood tested for Prostate Specific Antigen.

Tommy Gun's Okotoks Owner Heather Frayn says they were very happy to partner up with the health clinic on wheels to help raise awareness in the community.

"So we have been doing this initiative to mostly raise awareness, we cater only to men at our business so it's really important to have some fun, raise awareness, raise some money, we are also raffling free hair cuts for a year and just get the word out there and into the community."

The Man Van is Canada's first and only mobile men's health clinic that caters to men in Calgary and throughout rural southern Alberta.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson took part in the initiative and says prostate cancer is definitely something to stay on top of.

"It's important well in particular in my age and my gender obviously, a lot of my friends have been affected by prostate cancer, a very close friend has and he's still suffering the consequences of it, luckily he's gotten through it...but I think it's a noble cause and it's something people have to be aware of and I am really proud that Heather and Tommy Gun's has done this today. I think it's important they have given some visibility to prostate cancer."

Frayn says it was a perfect event to host for their business.

"Having the Man Van right on site is unique and special on its own, having it so available and convenient for the men who maybe haven't had the opportunity to get checked before. And again we are the perfect place to have this as we only cater to men which is great so it's kind of a one stop today."

One in seven men in Alberta are affected by prostate cancer so it's important to get checked.
