Another successful poppy campaign is in the books for the Okotoks Legion.

The campaign raised $74,794.3 which is about $3,000 more than last year.

Maureen Haberstock, Chair of the Okotoks Legion poppy campaign, says she attributes the increase to a couple things.

"Part of it of course is the great support we get from the citizens of Okotoks overall but we did introduce a new metallic poppy centre with a pin at the back of it that was very popular and that helped to take our total up this year."

The money from the poppy campaign goes into a trust fund which is then used to make donations to organizations that support veterans and their families, such as the Legacy House, Himarc, and the Military Family Resource Centre.

The Legion is grateful for all the support they receive.

"We have 150 members in our legion which is a fairly small number but we do get a lot of remembrance supporters from the general population," Haberstock explains, "and we had the Girl Guides helping us, four different cadet units, and some of the town clubs such as the Kinsmen and the Elks, and that made a great deal of difference."

According to Haberstock, it is estimated that about 3,000 people attended the Town of Okotoks Remembrance Day ceremony.
