The Town of Okotoks is getting ready to recognize those who donate their time at the 23rd Annual Leadership Awards.

The awards celebrate community members who demonstrate leadership through volunteering in Okotoks.

Sian Anderson, Community Wellness and Volunteer Administrator for the Town, says there's two different categories.

"Four Awards in total are given out... so we have the Leaders of Tomorrow award for elementary, junior, and senior high, and the Heart of Okotoks for adults or groups."

The recipient of the Leaders of Tomorrow award in the senior high category will receive a $500 scholarship and get to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference in Canmore.

Anderson says Okotoks is filled volunteerism.

"The Town of Okotoks alone has over 300 volunteers so with the different not-for-profits in our area that rely completely on volunteers we have thousands in our community."

The nomination deadline is Mar. 27 and submissions are made by writing a letter about why an individual deserves to receive an award.

Letters can be submitted online by clicking here or dropped off at the Okotoks Recreation Centre.

The Leadership Awards will take place Apr. 18 from 6- 9 p.m. at the D'Arcy Ranch Golf Club.
