A variety of calls for the Okotoks Fire Department this past week, including a response to a structure collapse.

On Monday, they responded to an indoor riding arena that had caved in at JM Equestrian located just east of Okotoks.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says there were no injuries from the incident.

"There were people on site and they did hear some snapping and cracking. They evacuated the building and probably around the 20 minute mark from leaving the building it did collapse and the roof did come down onto the ground in the whole area."

According to Thevenot, there's no word on what exactly caused the arena to collapse as it's under investigation.

He says there's a couple things to keep in mind when making sure these structures are safe.

"Things you can look for are the snow load, regular inspections of it. I guess the key thing when you're building these structures is to ensure you have the proper permits and proper specialists that would be involved when you're building any type of structure."

This past week the Fire Department responded to 28 calls including four vehicle collisions, a small rubbish fire, two rescues, five public hazard responses, one mutual aid response, and 14 medical responses.
