Albertans vote in the 2021 municipal election today, weighing in on local councils, school boards, and referendum questions.

Okotoks residents living north of the Sheep River can cast their ballots at the Recreation Centre (99 Okotoks Drive,) with those living south of the River asked to vote at the Foothills Centennial Centre (204 Community Way.)

Polling stations will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Along with selecting a new town council and mayor, locals will weigh in on local school board trustees.

Voters will have the choice of voting on either the Foothills School Division or Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools.

Two provincial referendum questions will also be posed:

-Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?

-Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Additionally, nominees for the senate election will appear on ballots.

Voters will need to bring a piece of I.D. displaying their name and address. A list of acceptable I.D. can be seen here.
