Culture and Heritage Manager Alan Boss and Art Gieck; Piano Donor revealing the piano. The newly decorated public piano has added a little more life to downtown Okotoks.

After local artist Danzel Carrasco won the Paint the Piano competition and put tons of hours in to her piano project, the new design was revealed in Okotoks Plaza yesterday before lunch.

Culture and Heritage Manager Allan Boss says he's ecstatic about the outcome.

"I'm ecstatic, it's absolutely stunning to look at. I spent a lot of time envisioning this project and looking at other pianos around and there are some really beautiful ones on the internet...but this one is right out of the top. It is gorgeous and it invites people to come and play."

Mount Royal student Carrasco worked more than fifty hours on the project and says she too is very happy with the final product.

"I'm just so happy, a lot of hard work went into it and just seeing it out there makes me want to play it whenever I pass by, I don't think people will resist playing it as they walk by."

The final design of the public instrument was inspired by the brightly colored wires inside of a robot.

Boss says the public piano has already attracted so many and thinks with the new paint job people won't be able to say no to playing a tune for the downtown area.

"I hope the community embraces the piano even more than they have... This year it's new, re invigorated, and I think the community will really take a hold of that piano and make it their own, and protect it, look after it, gather around it, play it and enjoy it."

Carrasco was presented with $250.00 from Mayor Bill Robertson, Linda McCallum, Allan Boss and Art Gieck for her masterpiece and says it will go towards more art supplies.

The unveiling was followed by the first Picnic in the Piano concert of the summer and four other concerts are scheduled for this year.
