It was a big from the 1950's into the 1980's but now Slot Car Racing is starting to make a comeback in the era of video games.

Every Wednesday, a group of a dozen or so racers from teenagers, to seniors, gather at Monster Hobbies in High River to go head-to-head on some of the worlds best racetracks.

Store Owner Trevor Ursulescu says unlike video games, there's actual social interaction, but the technology is up to date.

"The appeal of course is racing cars. And with the new element of digital, and being able to control speed, braking and lane changes much more realistically, it makes it much more "real world" than video games."

The league runs every Wednesday night at 7 o'clock at the store.

Also between now and December 22, they're asking racers to bring a donation for the High River Food Bank every night they race to help out those in need this time of year.
