Okotoks is a month into the new Universal Recycling Program and the town has already seen improvements.

But some changes are being made as the winter months are approaching.

Communications specialist for the town Melanie Heemeryck says the green cart pick up schedule won't be as frequent.

"Don't forget that the green cart is picked up bi-weekly starting next week from November till April. So we want everyone to pay attention to the collection schedule."

Collection schedules can be viewed at Okotoks.ca or on the waste mobile app that can be downloaded off the the town's website as well.

Hard copies can be found at Okotoks Eco centre, Operations centre and Municipal centre.

Heemeryck says the town really appreciates the residents efforts to keep Okotoks as green as possible.

"We want to thank everybody on doing their part in reducing greenhouse gases and helping our environment now and for our future generations. The green carts that were delivered to all single family homes in Okotoks, in late September for delivery in October, the programs been going great. We've diverted a lot of tonnage from the landfill."

Residents are reminded that blue and black carts will remain on their weekly pick up program.

Monday and Friday customers will see green cart pick up this week on October 31st and November 4th.

All other customers will have to wait until the following pick up day as the schedule transitions.
