The Okotoks Fire Department had plenty of fire calls to deal with in this week's fire report.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says there 16 various calls to deal with near and far in the community.

"Out of those 16 we had three fire responses, two motor vehicle accidents, six medical responses, two alarm system activations and one downed power line that we attended to," he says.

Out of the three fires, Thevenot said two of them turned out to be grass fires thanks to the very dry weather in the area.

"We had two out in the M.D. and the other one was in town. We had two grass fires and then one call came in described as a structure fire but it under out to be a dumpster bin instead."

Thevenot says the fires were easier contain thanks to the support of the public getting calls out to rural departments along with them as well.

"Both of them were really small in nature so these ones if left unattended could have been worse but it truly helps when passer-by's phone us and we can get a quick response and contain these fires when they're at a smaller size."
