It's time to get out to your local polling station and make your mark as the polls will soon be closed for 2015 Federal election.

Polls close at 7:30 where then the 42nd Parliament will be decided and it's been deemed a tight race where every vote will matter.

This year's vote is so important is that many took to the advanced polls which saw record numbers in the Foothills riding.

Central Polls Supervisor at the Foothills Centennial Centre Carrie Mathieson says turnout has been exceptional both at the advanced and Monday's general voting.

"I've worked advanced polls at all levels of elections and it was unbelievable we've never seen a turn-out like that, between 12 and 4 every single day we had upwards of hour long waits it was non-stop busy never seen it like that."

Mathieson says the wait times are still hovering at that five to ten minute wait window at polling stations.

First time voter Austin Orr says he almost didn't go vote, but then decided to make most of his rights as a Canadian citizen.

"I wasn't really planning on voting, until someone told me I should explain why its important and so now that I'm here I think its pretty cool and its important for other people to vote."
