The grounds of the Leighton Art Centre will be transformed today with colorful displays of art and fine crafts.

The 42nd annual Clothesline Festival and Art Sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chelsey Kehler, Leighton Art Centre Executive Director, says this year's outdoor event will feature over one thousand works of art and fine crafts.

"We have been doing this crazy festival for over 42 years," she says. "It started out with Barbara Leighton who would literally hang clothesline up along the trees. It's all unframed art by local artists and the art is hung from the clotheslines in clear cellophane bags."

The event features artist demonstrations, live musical performances, kids activities and food trucks. All the art is available for purchase and Kehler says there's art for everyone at the Clothesline Festival.

"As you walk around back, you'll hear the music and then you'll see the tents and it blows you away," Kehler says. "We have over 80 artists participating this year and there will be over 12 hundred pieces of art and fine craft. The great room is filled with pottery and woodworking and stonecraft. There's something for everybody."

Admission to the Clothesline Festival and Art Sale is free and the event will run rain or shine.
