Local driver's improved on last year's WPCA tarp auction numbers, but overall the bids were down significantly from the year before.

$1,014,800 was bid over the eight tour stops, down over $84,000 from 2016.

At High River's Guy Weadick Days the driver's will have to do with $14,000 less with just under $117,700 brought in.

Of the locals High River's Jason Glass got a few more bucks, bringing in $34,000

Okotoks Mark Sutherland was close behind with $31,250.

High River's Jordie Fike pulled in almost five grand more this year at $29,500 and rookie driver Dayton Sutherland did alright with $24,500 in bids.

It's important to note the increase in the driver's overall bids is because last year only seven shows were bid on for the WPCA auction, as the Grande Prairie Stompede held their own stand alone auction.

This year they were folded back into the WPCA auction.

The final auction of the year goes Friday, May 5 for the Ponoka Stampede.
