The Okotoks Dawgs treated their sold-out crowd to a thrilling ninth-inning win last night at Seaman Stadium in the Western Major Baseball League.

It seemed like the Dawgs were on their way to victory as they went into the 9th inning with a 5 to 2 lead over the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the season opener.

A handful of errors put the Mavericks out front 6 to 5 moving into the final frame.

However, with a pair of runners on Greg Cullen drove a double off the wall to score Eddie Sanchez and Peter Hutzal to retake the lead and earn the fist win of the season 7 to 6.

Cullen says it was a thrill to contribute in his first game.

'I was just thinking see a fast ball, hit a fast ball," said Cullen. "We were seeing a lot of change up today, so I was telling myself if you see a fast ball hit it the other way and I got my pitch and I did it."

He added there is a lot of talent on the team and anyway he can contribute, its good for the team so he would like to do it every night.

"It is crazy I have never seen atmosphere like this before its phenomenal, lot of great people around here they support their Dawgs, it's unbelievable."

The team is home all weekend as they play the Mavericks again June 3 at 7:05 and host the Edmonton Prospects on June 4 at 2:05.

The June 4th game is a teddy bear toss.
