With the golf courses set to close in the next couple of weeks, a lot of attention now turns to local curling rinks.

The Highwood Curling Club has their ice in, and Club Manager John Steel says interest in bonspiels and leagues is high once again, but he's hoping it'll get a shot in the arm thanks to the WFG Masters Grand Slam of Curling event coming to Okotoks October 25-30.

"I think it's going to be a great event. And it'll regenerate a lot of, I think, interest in our bonspiels. Because we're doing some advertising through that four days over there. So hopefully we can get some interest from the curling crowd in coming to bonspiel."

The ice is in and curlers are already coming out to practice ahead of the season starting October 11 at the Highwood Curling Club.

Steel says they have one Provincial event coming to High River this season, with the Mixed Southern play downs going March 3-5.

They also have a World Curling Tour event slated for December 2-4.
