The third night of the Medicine Hat Chuckwagon Races took place Saturday night.

High River's Jason Glass finished the night with a run of 1:01.22.

He is second in the aggregate with a combined total of 3:05.73.

Blackie's Jordie Fike finished the night with a run of 1:02.26.

The run put him in 13th with a combined time of 3:09.36.

While Okotoks Mark Sutherland had a run of 1:02.90.

The run moved him to 6th in the aggregate with a total time of 3:07.26.

Sutherland says that at the end of the day the way they drive is what will determine the winner at the end of the day.

"If you drive penalty free, and your horses do their job than you have a shot at winning, but if you make mistakes like I did at the last two shows than you're not going to win and it is just that simple."

The Medicine Hat races are the only 3 barrel races in the WPCA circuit.

The track is only half a mile long and some drivers find it a little more difficult than the regular 5/8 of a track that the drivers race during the rest of the season.

"There is really no great opportunity to come down the home stretch or steal the rail, or run to wide around somebody," Sutherland says.

Sutherland adds that it is hard to map out a plan on the half mile track, and a lot of it comes down the to beginning of the race.

"It's really about barrel turns and draw here, if you have any guy that had momentum when the horn goes than it is extremely difficult to steal the rail here."

The fourth night of racing takes place Sunday night.
