The Alberta High School of Fine Arts, proudly presents:

Spoon River Anthology

There is a fictional town called Spoon River. The deceased townspeople have stories to tell. Some of these stories are disturbing, and need to be told. The dead want to tell the truth without the repercussions that would have landed on them if they were still alive. They need a chance to tell the secrets that they had taken to the grave, so they can finally rest in peace. Some residents of Spoon River had hoped these stories were buried in the coffin along with the story teller. Some died without ever having a chance to show their gratitude towards their families. Some just want a chance to complain. Every one has a story to tell. Find out what happens when the graveyard of this small town comes to life.

Spoon River Anthology written in 1915 by Edgar Lee Masters, is a collection of short free-form poems, epitaphs, told by the residents that had died in this fictional town. The name Spoon River came from a real river that ran by Masters home, and the surnames of these fictional characters came from cemeteries near by. It has been said that Masters hit a little too close to home in his portrayal of these residents. The quite alive residents of his hometown felt these stories were about them and were quite upset and somewhat embarrassed about what was told. Apparently all Masters intended was to demystify the rural, small town life, and does so in a haunting and moving way.

Don't miss it.
