The Sheep River Health Trust is looking to bring joy to local seniors.

The organization is encouraging residents to write letters and draw pictures to show their support for residents at Rising Sun Long Term Care in Black Diamond.

Candace Wyma, Fund Development Coordinator for the SRHT, says the High River District Health Care Foundation inspired the idea.

"We kind of piggy-backed off them as they did something similar and we have a really good partnership with Rising Sun Long Term Care. Our seniors really mean something to us and we thought we could help brighten their day because they're isolated like many seniors in different seniors homes throughout Alberta, so we thought it would be a really good idea to smiles on their faces."

Residents of any age can take part and are asked to use words of encouragement and draw colourful pictures.

Wyma says Rising Sun Long Term Care is an organization they've supported since the beginning.

"We've done a lot of capital projects at Oilfields Hospital and we've funded a seniors bus at Rising Sun Long Term Care so we've done some direct projects and a lot to help them out there but we want to give something directly to those residents and having those cards and encouraging words would be nice."
