48 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during Wednesday's provincial update, after nearly 7000 tests in the last 24 hours.

Active cases have risen to 486.

According to the province's geospatial data, both the "Okotoks-Priddis" area and the "High River" area have two active cases each.

38 Albertans are currently being treated in hospital, with seven in intensive care.

Recoveries have risen to 6893, with no additional deaths reported.

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw took a moment to remind Albertans of the importance of limiting the spread amidst stage two of the relaunch.

Dr. Hinshaw says she understands the numerous regulations and restrictions can be hard to keep track of, and that we can support each other by educating one another.

"If your friends are hosting a back yard party, help make sure households practice distancing, and know to make sure to bring their own refreshments. If you run a business, remind your customers of the measures you're taking to protect them, and how they can protect your staff."

She was also asked about garage sales. While they haven't been outright banned in the province, many municipalities, including the Town of Okotoks, have strongly advised against them.

Dr. Hinshaw says garage sales can present multiple avenues for the spread of COVID-19, and those who choose to hold them should employ rigorous sanitation practices.

"There's definitely risk inherent, both in the selling of one's own belongings, as well as having multiple people who probably wouldn't otherwise interact in close proximity with each other."
