The Okotoks Ag Society Grounds were home to the qualifying rounds of the Team Cattle Penning this week.

The event has teams of three try to get three cows into a pen as fast as possible.

Angela Pipe is the Chair of the Western Performance Horse Committee and says that there are certain things that could cause a trash call meaning that the time is automatically 0.

"You have to bring down the three right number cows, there is no two of the right number and a wrong number or an extra number."

Other things that could call trash calls are aggression or touching the cows, the reasons for these rules are for the safety and well being of the animals.

Pipe adds that even with the rules it is an exciting event that people can enjoy.

"Its fast paced action, easy to understand and follow and its great to see who all is competing."

Wednesday and Thursday were the qualifying rounds for the event finals at the Stampede ground on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

"There was 652 teams competing for 80 qualifying sports this year," Pipe says.

Adding that there will be two classes competing on Friday, and than one on Saturday and Sunday.
