Staff Sargeant Zane Semeniuk appeared before Okotoks Town Council on Monday to deliver the Okotoks detachment's quarterly report.

The report encompasses January-March of this year, as well as the last four years.

Semeniuk reported an overall positive first quarter, and highlighted a number of notable downward trends.

Property crimes were down 19% compared to the same time in 2019, and though persons crimes saw a 4% increase from last year, it's continuing on a downward trend of 33% over the last five years.

Total drugs cases were also down 60% from 10 to 4 cases when compared to last year, and down 89% from 2016-2020.

Some increases did occur, including spousal abuse, which saw a 14% increase with eight more cases, and assaults which saw a 100% increase, with 21 cases compared to 10 in 2019.

Semeniuk also highlighted a 14% increase in reports of suspicious persons/vehicles, which he attributes to residents keeping a more watchful eye.

Another notable statistic included in the report is "COVID-19 Files (Reported,)" with six listed.
