The best Masters curlers from around Southern Alberta will be in High River this weekend for the men's and women's Southern Alberta Playdowns.

Highwood Curling Club Manager John Steel says it'll be a full house.

"We have 16 Masters teams, which is 60 and over age group. And then six teams of Master women. The men playoff for three spots in the Provincials, while the women are playing off to eliminate one team. So five teams move forward to Provincials which is also held at the club here, starting on the 24th of February."

Steel says despite only half a dozen ladies teams taking part, they're all very, very good.

"The six women's teams that are playing are all very experienced in the playoff circuit, all the way from Seniors to the Masters. So, they're all very well seasoned."

Leading the way for the ladies is former Alberta Masters Champion Jean Quigley from Okotoks.

While Vulcan's Darrell Smith is the lone men's team from the Foothills taking part.
