Oilers rookie will head close to home for college

The Okotoks Oilers have yet another player headed to college in the states.

Rookie Sam Hall of Oldwick New Jersey has committed to play for St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

The Saints play in the NCAA’s Division I East Coast Athletic Conference.

The 6’2", 175lb defenseman came to the Oilers after being recruited out of Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut.

There he was an alternate captain and scored ten points, one goal and nine assists in 28 games in the prep school ranks.

Hall, 19, is 14th in rookie scoring in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, with five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 45 games. 

He's been on a bit of a tear lately with seven points in his last five games.

"Sam has been an unreal contributor to our team and a big reason for our success this year," said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis in a statement on the team's website. "He came in and immediately made an impact for us offensively and defensively, and he’s continued to improve thanks to his work ethic.

"This commitment is extremely well-deserved, and we know Sam is going to be a major contributor for SLU."

Hall's the tenth Oiler on the team’s current roster committed to an NCAA Division I school.
