What a difference two weeks can make for the Okotoks Oilers.

After dropping three straight regulation losses on a northern roadtrip in Lloydminster, Sherwood Park and Drayton Valley. The Oilers responded with a strong showing in Whitecourt, Grande Prairie and Spruce Grove going 2-1.

Oilers got off to a good start on the road beating the Whitecourt Wolverines 4-3 then followed that up with 5-2 win in Grande Prairie before falling to Spruce Grove on Sunday 3-0.

Oilers Head Coach and General Manager James Poole says all in all, he was pleased with the team's effort up north.

"The Whitecourt game was by far our best game of the weekend, playing against a really good team and came away with a solid effort, had some good goaltending and actually had a lot of scoring chances a few posts, a few open nets that we missed to really stretch that lead, really happy how we started the weekend," he says.

Despite falling in the third game in a span of less than two and a half days to one of the AJHL's best in the Saints, Poole says he knows his team can play with the best despite being a very young roster.

"We actually carried the play and we actually skating with Spruce Grove in the 1st," he says. "Unfortunately we lost our legs in the 2nd and 3rd period and against a team like Spruce Grove with their speed and skill, if you're not moving your feet you're going to pay the price and unfortunately we didn't have the legs."

Riley Morris was in between the pipes for all three games on the weekend and was impressive even in the loss on Sunday, Poole says it was a great bounce back set of games for the him.

"With us going with the win and stay in rotation right now that there is a little bit of motivation for the goalies to take care of their games and if they do win their games they're going to be right back in there, Riley did a good job running with the ball this weekend, despite the loss in Spruce Grove that was probably his best game of the weekend."

The Oilers are off till Friday when they open a weekend homestand starting with the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
