The Highwood Mustangs football team's scheduled game in Pincher Creek Saturday has been cancelled.

Coach Brian Brandford says it's simply a matter of numbers.

"I had talked to their coach and it was just too early in the season for us smaller schools. We got more guys out this week, but we just didn't feel we'd be able to prepare our kids in time to have an effective, safe game."

Brandford says they'll try to reschedule it.

They are slated to open the season Friday, September 9, in Strathmore against the Spartans.
