A local saddlebronc rider is in the running for a championship, in fact a couple of them.

Clay Elliott of Nanton says he's had a really great 2016.

"It's been outstanding, I've gotten on a lot of really good horses this year and I think the difference between last year and this year is my consistency," he says. "I had a little more consistency this year than last year and therefore I won more and to making both the Canadian Finals and the National Finals is very special and I'm very fortunate."

Elliott says the key to his success has been keeping a good attitude after good rides and the bad.

"Rodeo's a game of short term memory, I try to forget the successes and the failures, just keep moving forward," Elliott says. You're going to get on a lot of horses, this year I've been to about 120 rodeos in the 2016 season and I'll be getting on good horses and bad horses and trying to forget the bad ones and you've got to enjoy the good ones, but try to just go forward with each horse and the same altitude and that's how I maintain my consistency."

He says as far as injuries go he's been pretty fortunate although he did miss the Calgary Stampede rodeo with a groin problem but he's feeling good now and happy to have a lot of folks from Nanton behind him.
