A rough night for local high school football teams Friday.

The Foothills Composite Falcons fell 22-0 over St. Francis out of Calgary in their home opener

While the Highwood Mustangs were on the losing side falling 54-2 against Willow Creek Composite out of Claresholm.

Mustangs head coach Bryan Brandford says it's going to be a process getting the Mustangs program going strong again, but was happy with the little things that went on through the game.

"They're here every night, we got about 20 guys in the grouping they're here every night, we got got about 25 guys on the team but we got some injuries, we just got to play to get the experience. It take games like this to get that experience and we don't care about the score it's about playing the games to get the experience."

He has seen some improvements with his Mustang team even though the scoreboards may not show it.

"Three or four times we laid a couple of their guys out, we didn't do that at all last weekend against Pincher Creek. Our defence had a couple of stops and they had their starting tailback in it was a little rough because he's a pretty fast guy and we don't have the speed that they have or the size but I'd say positively our defence got better as the game went on.

The Mustangs will a get a much needed bye-week, while the Falcons will be at home next Friday to Bishop O'Byrne.
