When voters go to the polls in High River in October there'll be a familiar name on the ballot.

Craig Snodgrass has decided to run for a third term as mayor.

He talked it over with his wife Lyndsay to see if it would be too disruptive with his young family and she told him, it's normal for them now.

"It's not that big a deal, there are still lots of things to do, there's always lots of things to do in High River but the coal mining issue is another big one that's very important to us," he says. "The coal mining piece doesn't take a lot of town time at all, it takes time away from my business but as far as the Town of High River goes we've got the swimming pool referendum coming up, that's a big one and the work that the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board is going to be doing that we're heavily involved with now, so there's a lot of things in play."

He says High River's in a very solid position now with all the flood mitigation that's been done and financially it's in a good place and coming out of the pandemic there's going to be work needed to get things back on track.

Snodgrass says he didn't recognize the importance of continuity and the role it plays when he first elected back in 2013 but he does now.

"The Town is a very large organization, it's a complicated one with every decision we make affects every person and business in High River it doesn't matter whereabouts it's located in town, all these decisions matter, whether it affects you personally or through the tax base or anything else, so knowing that and having the last eight years is extremely important and very very valuable," Snodgrass says. "I'm hopeful that we've got a number of councillors that are also going to run again for re-election so we can keep that continuity but we'll probably have some new faces on council as well."

Snodgrass also enjoys the challenge of working with council and doing their part for the town of High River.

The only councillor to officially announce they're running again is Jamie Kinghorn.

The election is set for October 18, 2021.
